Ice Detainment of Native Americans: True or False?

One day before the murder of Renee Good, 20 year old Jose Roberto Ramerez was arrested and detained by ICE in Minneapolis. For context, he is an American citizen and a member of the Red Lake nation. While this may seem like an isolated incident, there have been reports of Native Americans being detained by ICE agents outside of Minneapolis. In June 2025, Native Americans were also stopped and questioned in Arizona. According to the Migration Policy Institute, ICE detentions have almost doubled under the trump administration. In fact, as of January 7th 2026, ICE detention average has risen from 70000 from 39000 when Trump returned to office. It is worth noting that while some sources from DHS stated that up to 52% of detainees have criminal records or pending charges, other sources, such as tracereports.org and Cato Institute, have stated that around 70% do not have any prior conviction whatsoever. Social media has made claims that ICE agents get financially incentivized to arrests as many people as possible in order to ensure quotas are being made, however these claims do not have enough independent reporters to fully verify these accusations.
