In April 3, 2023, the crew for the Artemis II Mission was annouced to the public consisting of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Hammock Koch, along with CSA austronaut Jeremy Hansen. For context, this mission will be the first crewed flight on the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft around the moon. It will be a 10 day crewed lunar flyby which will be the farthest away from the Earth that humans have ever travelled. The mission is expected to launch in early 2026, which will be the first crewed lunar mission in over 50 years. If this mission is successful, it could be huge in advancing in critical life-support and other space expeditions, potentially in planets like Mars. While there are major implications, such as heat shield performance, there is no doubt that this mission, if successful, will be a major step forward in space exploration.
